NEWARK, N.J. -- For the second straight game, the Los Angeles Kings used a strong third period to get a road victory. Dwight King and Anze Kopitar scored third-period goals and Ben Scrivens made 26 saves to lift the Kings to a 2-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night. Scrivens, playing for the injured Jonathan Quick, got a 3-2 win on Thursday over the Islanders when the Kings scored three times in the third period. The Kings finish their New York City metropolitan area trip with a game at Madison Square Garden on Sunday against the Rangers. "The confidence was there after winning on the island," Scrivens said. "Its obviously important to stop every shot." Scrivens came up with 12 saves in the first period when he was tested by the Devils. "We probably deserved to have one or two in the first period," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. "We just didnt take advantage in the first. Were not a pretty group offensively. We have to score some ugly goals. We all feel for (Schneider) He cant do more than what hes doing. Its frustrating for all of us." Kings sixth goal of the season came at 13:08. Defenceman Jake Muzzins drive from the left point was redirected by King, standing in front of goalie Cory Schneider. "It came off a line change," King said. "They were battling on the wall and it got to the point, I was wide open at the net and he slid one on the ice and I got a stick on it. We came back last night and tonight. We had to find a way to win and thats what good teams do." Kopitar scored an empty-net goal with 2.9 seconds left. Schneider made 19 saves. "Hes a solid goaltender," Kopitar said of Scrivens. "We got off to a little bit of a slow start and we kept building up our game, making plays. Eventually in the third, we got one." Fridays game was the Kings first visit to the Prudential Center since playing the Devils in the 2012 Stanley Cup finals. The Kings nearly scored 7:33 into the third period. Muzzin centred a puck from the left side of the blue line. New Jersey defenceman Andy Greene put out his stick and deflected it on goal, where Schneider alertly made the save. In the second period, defenceman Peter Harrold was whistled for a four-minute penalty when he was called for high sticking Tyler Toffoli of the Kings. But King was penalized for hooking 50 seconds into the power play and sat for two minutes. Harrold was the recipient of a hit to the head by Jordan Nolan with 1:31 left in the second. The centre put his shoulder down and levelled Harrold with a shot to the side of his head. Harrold was face-down on the ice, but, after play was stopped, he managed to skate off on his own. Harrold returned to regular shifts in the third period. The Devils were the aggressors in the scoreless first period, but couldnt solve Scrivens. "(Schneider) has played unbelievable for us so far this year and we havent given him the goal support," Devils winger Stephen Gionta said. "I thought we played a pretty good controlled game in their end, but we could have gotten to the net a little more." NOTES: The power-play goal by Kopitar in the closing seconds broke a string of 12 straight kills over three games by the Devils. ... Jaromir Jagr has 120 career game-winning goals, just one behind the NHL record held by Gordie Howe. ... Patrik Elias returned after a six-game absence for the Devils, who also got back Stephen Gionta. Air Force 270 Deutschland Kaufen . The Mets made the announcement Sunday night. And it starts at the quarterback position, quite frankly. Now its a question as to whether RG3 is done for good in Washington, and whether hell develop the skills necessary to succeed as a pocket-passer in the NFL.The Redskins (3-8) are 0-3 since he returned from an ankle injury and have scored only one touchdown in each of the past two games. The former No. 2 overall draft pick seemed poised to revolutionize the quarterback position with his arm and legs when he led Washington to the playoffs two years ago, but he is 4-14 as a starter since the start of the 2013 season and has struggled to adjust his game.We just want him to take a step back, work on his craft a little bit more, study the game a little bit more, Gruden said.Griffin will serve as the No. 2 quarterback on Sunday. Although he chatted informally with reporters Wednesday, he made no comment about Grudens decision. The Redskins have not permitted Griffin to speak publicly at various times this season, but a team spokesman said it was Griffins decision to remain silent this time.Gruden has had plenty to say, much of it quite candid, about Griffins development. The coach was particularly brutal a week ago, citing fundamental flaws after an abysmal performance in a 20-point loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Griffin followed that up by throwing for just 106 yards in a 17-13 defeat against the San Francisco. This is the fourth quarterback change made by Gruden this year. The coach called it a merry-go-around, but its almost par for the course for the Redskins, who have used 24 starters since 1993. The lack of continuity has its price — theyve missed the playoffs in 18 of those 22 seasons. And now they might have to start over yet again at the sports most important position. They gave up three first-round picks in order to move up and select Griffin in the 2012 draft, a trade that had serious ramifications because it kept Washington from filling other vital needs in subsequent drafts. The team will have to decide in the upcoming off-season whether to pick up a fifth-year option on Griffins contract. That now seems unlikely, but Gruden nevertheless said he hasnt given up on the 24-year-old QB.For Robert to take a step back and be a backup quarterback is not the end of the world, Gruden said. Its happened to great quarrterbacks in the past.dddddddddddd It will happen again. ... Doesnt mean hes not going to be a great quarterback one day, here or somewhere else or whatever. The timing is particularly humiliating for Griffin because it comes as the Redskins are preparing to face the Colts and Andrew Luck, who was the No. 1 overall draft pick ahead of Griffin. The two will always be compared, but their paths have diverged incredibly since their rookie season.Griffin was benched for the final three games last year as the season spiraled to a 3-13 finish under then-coach Mike Shanahan. He has also suffered two major leg injuries, a torn ACL in his right knee as a rookie and a dislocated left ankle this year. The injuries have played a part in Griffins desire to become a pass-first quarterback, rather than the dual-threat player who rushed for 815 yards as a rookie. The ankle problem caused Griffin to miss six games and hindered his work with Gruden. But there had already been signs in training camp that he was having trouble with basics such as footwork and downfield reads.Kirk Cousins took over after Griffin was hurt in the first quarter of the Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he lost his next four starts and proved to be turnover-prone. He was benched at halftime in favour of McCoy against the Tennessee Titans, and McCoy rallied the Redskins to a 19-17 win, then to a Monday night upset of the Dallas Cowboys.Despite McCoys success, Gruden went back to Griffin the following week — and the Redskins havent won since. If we reversed the clock, obviously knowing what we know now, Id stick with Colt, Gruden said. For the season, Griffin has completed 70 per cent of his passes, but he has only two touchdowns and three interceptions and has been sacked 20 times in five starts. His passer rating is 85.7.McCoy joined the Redskins this season in need of a job in his fifth year in the league, willing to be a third-stringer behind Griffin and Cousins. He went more than two years between NFL starts, but he has completed 86 per cent of his passes (36 for 42) in his two games with Washington this season.Even with such numbers to back it up, the move is a bold one for Gruden, a rookie coach trying to get a handle on a struggling franchise. Asked why he isnt using the final five games to give Griffin more chances to develop, Gruden answered: I think theres a case for that, but theres also a case that Colt is 2-0.Gruden said he discussed the move with owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen.I think ultimately its the coachs decision, but theyre on board, Gruden said. Had they been adamant and said, No, play him, I dont know what would have happened.___AP Sports Writer Michael Marot in Indianapolis contributed to this report.___AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Joseph White on Twitter: http://twitter.com/JGWhiteAP ' ' '
